I haven't seen Oprah, and we didn't record it, so I won't be seeing it. I
also haven't seen anything else current indicating Lance's plans. But I
know what "Jump the Shark" means. My wife TiVo'ed a Happy Days anniversary
show last week. They explained the origin of the term, "Jump the Shark."
It refers to the episode where Fonzi water ski jumped over a shark in a pen.
It means, in the TV biz, anyway, that a show has gone beyond some
undefinable limit of taste or style, and is now headed for oblivion. Garry
Marshall proudly pointed out that Happy Days did more than 100 episodes
after "Jumping the Shark", but the phrase still means that an endeavor has
gone irreversibly past the point of no redemption.
One might apply that term to pretty much anything several over-exposed
blonde female celebrities have done in the last year, but they're still
around...
I suppose one very visible cycling example might be Big Mig's attempt to win
#6.
With that meaning in mind, do you still think Lance "Jumped the Shark"? If
you do, I would infer that he's going for number 7, and you think it will be
as notable as the aforementioned debacle for Big Mig.
