Ritchey Crank Question

Hey do-it-yourself wrenchers,

I have a pair of Ritchey cross cranks I was pulling out of the box to

put on my road bike last night. Splined Octalink style BB spindle. I

had stored all the parts in a plastic bag, including cranks, crank

bolts, chainrings, (5) chainring bolts, one thick washer, and (4)

little super-thin washers.

I can't remember what those (4) little thin washers are for. I believe

they go between the chainring and the spider, probably so that the

rings are a suitable distance apart for a 9-spd chain to function

properly.

Anyone know where those washers go... what side, between which ring,

side of spider, etc???

Are they necessary?

Thanks much for your ideas! I imagine the black "cross" cranks are

similar to the silver "road" version so if you've messed around w/

those, you might know too.
