OCN/OBRA -
notice fron OCN that they are
increasing their prices, effectively now
I enjoy Oregon Cycling News, and am proud of having the local scene
covered in such a versatile way. It's a cool little paper, geared up to
serve a wide audience. Publications like this don't happen overnight.
If our association ceases, I would guess that their racing coverage
might wane.
In a perfect world, we would have our own in-house publication, devoted
entirely to OBRA news. But until then...
The OBRA subscription is probably a major source of revenue for the
newspaper, and it seems they would be willing to negotiate to preserve
the account (I can't imagine it would enhance their appeal to
advertisers, losing our mailing). Perhaps the rate increase could be
postponed until next year so we could better accommodate our budget with
the lead-in time? What are their reasons for the increase? If it IS a
question of actually losing money on us, then it's a problem perhaps
beyond us at this point.
