I'm afraid there was nothing scientific in how I chose a team. I joined
Team Oregon because they seemed like a friendly group of folks and they
offered team rides out on the west side. I like that they are fairly
diverse group (w.r.t age, gender, skill). I looked at what other teams
there are in the area, but only really checked out a couple that had some
focus on the west side (Beaverton). I was encouraged that there were a
number of folks on the team dedicated to supporting the local racing scene.
The team also seems pretty dedicated to supporting its members at all levels
as appropriate and there's good participation and contribution from the
members.
Many teams conduct weekly rides where non-team members are allowed. Some
might request that you ask beforehand. It's probably good to ask someone
anyway in case they're doing a type of ride not appropriate for you or
there's been a change (of time/location) from what's advertised on their
website. I invite you to come out to TeamO's Saturday ride (Cornelius Pass
Park and Ride @ 9:30am).
Check out the OBRA web site for a list of clubs/teams. I'm confident you'll
find a team that suits you on this list.

On top of all the great suggestions already posted, you should consider
joining a club/team if you haven't already done so. Besides the training

I tried to use the Reply to Sender feature, but I don't think it worked (I
CC'd myself to test it and never got it). My question for you was:
What team did you choose to join and why? I raced all last season
unattached to get used to it and gain experience; I train and race with a
few others who will work with me, but we're not a "team" in any official
sense. Now I'm considering joining a team; I know quite a few people with
the various clubs in the area, and they all (of course) have good things to
say about their team. What I'm interested in hearing is how people made the
decision to join their current team. What things did you consider and what
made your current team stand out from the rest?
