Hello OBRA list members. The Multnomah County Library maintains an online

purchase request form that we can use to ask for more cycling DVD's. Several

months ago, I used it to point-out to them a glaring hole in their

collection. They had no bicycle racing DVD's, and I encouraged them to

purchase some European pro racing DVD's from World Cycling Productions. The

thrust of my argument was that there would be plenty of demand for these

DVD's in Portland, the #1 cycling city in the US according to Bicycling

magazine, that the Tour de France was widely regarded as the greatest

international sporting event in the world with a rich history, that it had

been dominated by an inspiring American cancer survivor for a record 6 years

running, and that TV coverage was extremely rare, the cost of these DVD race

documentaries were prohibitive to many and unavailable at video/dvd rental

stores. I suggested they start their collection with the 10-hour collector's

edition DVD set of Armstrong's record 6th victory in the TDF, and pointed

them to the World Cycling web site where they could make the purchase. A

month or so ago, I checked their online library catalog and guess what. They

had purchased the 10-hr set of the 2004 TDF. So this has inspired me to urge

you all to let them know we want more. Let them know there is demand. Click

the link below and fill out the short form. Maybe you'd like to see the

Paris-Roubaix races, or A Sunday in Hell. If European racing isn't your

thing, tell them about the type of cycling you like. Make it easy for them

by telling them where they can get the material if you know. If you don't

live in Multnomah County, contact your local library and make the request.
