Team RCW Challenge to Oregon Racing Teams and Their Support of

Provencher, Darell

2001-02-09

If a bunch of old farts can give a relatively small amount of money and time

to positively impact 2 juniors' ability to attend a great weekend at the

OBRA Regional Development Camp, then surely there are other Oregon Teams

that can do the same.

Team RCW is giving the B.I.K.E. (Bicycling and Ideas for Kids' Empowerment)

organization a check for $200 to help pay for kid's tuition costs for the

4-day program in Eugene. I think there may be at least 10 kids that need

this kind of financial support. If your team or you personally want to help

support this great beginning of the season event, contact John Benenante at

503-234-8454. Checks can be made payable to B.I.K.E. If you can donate

your time at the camp that weekend, I think there may still be some slots

available.

I can still see Splinter Wren speaking at the OBRA Banquet about the support

of junior racing in OBRA, while looking directly at masters living legend

Steve Johnson (Dr. Stephen C. Johnson is also the chief operating officer

for USA Cycling. Johnson joined USA Cycling in 1998 and was most recently

named director of the USA Cycling Development Foundation) and saying, "I

challenge ANY state (or organization) in the US to match the level of

support of Junior racing that OBRA provides."

We've got great things going here with OBRA racing. Dig a little into the

bank account and support the Juniors. Thanks. (And no, nobody asked me to

do this. This is unsolicited and just needs to be said.)
