How fat are your tires? You can ride the linear trail between Vernonia and
Banks. Then do like George says.

Highway 47 to Highway 26. Highway 26 to Helvatia/Shute Road exit in
Hillsboro. North on Helvatia Road (left turn off exit), and then a
right turn on West Union. West Union to its end at the intersection of
Kaiser, Thompson and 143rd. Straight on Thompson and continue up hill
to Skyline. Right on Skyline and continue to either Cornell to go to NW
Portland, Burnside to go to either NW of SW Portland, or Fairview to go
by the Rose Garden and Washington Park to end up in SW Portland (these
are all left turns). If you want to go further, you can go to Sylvan
and cross 26 and turn left on Humphrey and end up near Council Crest.
Of course, if you do not mind 26, you can take it all the way from
Highway 47 to Sylvan or the exit by Rasmussen BMW at Goose Hollow (I
believe it is the PGE Park Exit).
