Intensity vs. Duration in competition

Hi there,



This issue of preparation within Oregon for national/international

caliber events has come up a few times, so I thought I?d add a little if

it helps at all?



The difference between regional events (almost everywhere) and national

or international events is primarily a function of intensity. Absolute

intensity is first with intensity for duration close behind in terms of

what is required for an individual to be competitive in a particular

event. I think this is something worth keeping in mind regardless of

category if one is looking at races from the perspective of training

benefits.
