i came to bike racing just recently after 15 or so years of alpine climbing. having spent days in tents and snow caves waiting out storms, i have become a big fan of pee bottles. peeing in a bottle sure beats getting out of the relative warmth of a tent to go outside into the snow at 15,000 - 20,000 ft where it might be 10 below or so. for me, at least, it also beats waiting for 20 mins for the porta-john or holding it for 56 miles.
just do it in the privacy of your own car so you don't offend the neighbors. oh yeah, and always mark your bottle with a skull and crossbones so your teammate doesn't take a swig thinking its a bottle of recovery drink.

Sorry Jim but I disagree.
Even if "only" 262 had attended, two additional would still be
insufficient.
That would only be one per 43 racers.
With the "average" racer arriving at a race ? hour or so early and
taking an "average" of 60 seconds to "take care of business", 13 racers
would have no opportunity to use the "porta-john" at all. That is 13 per
or 78 in this case. And that is if you only need to "go" one
time........[I usually "go" twice :-) ]
BTW: When ordering "porta-johns", after the first one the additional are
usually only $50 or so each......

Harry and everyone,
I helped Scott and Cameron pick up signs after the race. I mentioned
the lines for the toilets. They informed me they had 362 riders...100
more than last year! They were adequately prepared for numbers like
they've seen in the past 8 years, but this year, the sport has
experienced a tremendous growth spurt.
They were caught about 2 units short with the extra racers.
Just thought you would like to know.
They will adjust accordingly in the future.
Promoters of future events, be aware the fields and participation are
larger than last year!

sufficient Porta-Johns for the crowd. I waited a bit over 15 minutes in
line to use a Porta-John starting at about 9:00 AM, and the line grew
significantly longer while I was waiting. There was no way I had time
for a second use prior to the race.
