If the weather forecast holds true this week we should see some more
ideal conditions for Tuesday night racing in Eugene. The series
standings to this date are as follows.
In the Cat ? field, Billy Truelove of Hutch's holds a 6 point lead over
Guinness Cycling's Zach Winter who is only 2 points in front of Hutch's
rider Dan Vrijmoet. Dan and Zach swapped finishing places last week but
this is a new week with less racing in the legs so we should see a
battle for the number 2 spot behind Billy. Either way you put it Hutch's
has numerous cards to play at the top end of the racing scene.
The cat 3 field saw Galen Mitterman of Hayden homes take over the #1
spot last week with Richard of Paul's Bicycle Way of Life taking the
week off. He has a 8 point lead over Paul's Bicycle Way of Life's Joel
Wilson (last years Cat 4/5 state Champion) and the next 2 spot's are
held by Paul's riders as well. If Galen should falter or miss a week it
would mean an end to his top spot on the cat 3 field. Leif Hochendoner
of Hutch's rounds out the top 5 spot.
Wes Stephens of Paul's Bicycle Way of Life Cycling Team seems to be
unbeatable in the Cat 4/5 field. Two weeks dominating the number 1 spot
has given him a 10 & 13 point lead over two EWEB Windpower riders Doug
Turnbull and Eric Ahlvin. Mike Cleary holds No. 4 spot and even with
missing a week Paul's Bicycle Way of Life Boyd Piebenga holds on to the
number 5 spot, but there are riders nipping at his heals. Can anyone
topple Wes from the number one spot this week? With the largest field
racing there is bound to be someone willing to give him a run for his
money.
Alex Reightley of EWEB Windpower has a slim 6 point lead over Ryan
Miller of EWEB Windpower who holds a 2 point lead over the next EWEB
Windpower rider Kyle Thackray. The cool thing is we have 5 juniors out
there racing and they are all from EWEB Windpower, with Harry Hamlin and
Daniel Ahlvin round out the rest of the field.
The Masters field's have some tight competition in the M40+ with Paul
Duncan and Paul Qualtere-Burcher of EWEB Windpower holding a equal point
lead for 1st. Ken Peterson and Eric Selker of EWEB Windpower have
finished 1st & 2nd each week and hold the same two spot's on the
overall. The same goes for 3rd-6th place as well, with Mark Armstrong of
EWEB Windpower, Paul Timm of Team Navarra and John Parsons of Wheelworks
all finishing and holding the same spot's. The M60+ field saw 3 riders
with David Russell of Huntair holding off Roger Johnson of River City
Wheelman and Alec Bentley to keep the #1 spot for the second week.
The SS class saw the same placing as the week before with Russell Hunt
of Wheelworks holding off Brandon Reed.
With a no show from Jim Fisher and Heather Paris of EWEB Windpower the
#1 spot for the Tandem went to the other EWEB Windpower Tandem team of
Scott and Angela McCanna.
The women's field still has one cat 1 and one cat 3 rider with Kori Kunz
of EWEB Windpower and Jaini Crawford of Paul's Bicycle Way of Life
holding onto the #1 spot's. Jaini still has the fastest time of all the
women for the series and is half way there to earning that $50 cash
prize. The Cat 4 field has 11 riders in it, the third largest field out
there, with Candy Walker of Paul's Bicycle Way of Life holding a 6 point
lead over Kerry Ricketts. But Kerri is tied for points with Elizabeth
Vollmer-Buhl of Hutch's so the next two test will be key. Susanna Jubber
won last week, if she can show up and do the same the next 2 races she
should be able to move up into the #1 or #2 spot.
Should be an exciting two weeks coming up with everyone wanting to hold
onto their positions or move up and topple the top person.
Please remember that all riders need to obey the rules of the road and
stay to the right at all times. The 3rd corner with the stop sign does
have a flagger for the traffic, but that does not give you permission to
cross the yellow line on either road. I gave two 30 second penalties
last week for crossing the line, that makes a big difference as 1 of the
people would have won their category without the penalties. This is for
your safety, on-coming traffic is not stopped and if you cross the
yellow line they are not expecting you to be on their side of the road.
The corners have plenty of room to negotiate them without crossing the
lines.
This will be the last week to do the TTT option, make sure you let me
know at registration you are doing it so we can get someone to start
you. If you want to go early for a ITT get to registration early or
email me and I will see what I can do.
The last week we will be doing the same as last year for overall results
and prizes. Meeting at Track Town pizza in Eugene on Franklin street, we
should have everything ready to go by about 8:30 so come on down after
the race and some pizza and beer from a great sponsor of the race.
