I would just like to say that the cat 3 crit was far and away the worst showing that I've ever seen in a bike race, both bike handling and rider etiquette.
About 12 minutes into the race we experienced our first crash on a right hand turn into a one lane road.
So we kept racing for the rest of the lap and then were told to go neutral, hold our spots and go single file. I was blown away by the amount of people who used this as an opportunity to advance their place in the group. I would say about 4 of us tried to keep the order by speaking up when riders moved up the side. After a lap or two we were going through the crash corner with people jockeying for position (remember we're neutral) and they crashed into the crash (ambulance, emts, rider on the ground)! I used this as an opportunity to speak to the front of the group asking, if as a whole, we would stop the race at the s/f line. Everyone looked around at each other afraid to agree or disagree. Was this too much for me to ask? Not even half way through the race, and all most of them seemed to worry about was their placing in the group. Around the next corner the officials stopped us while the ambulance did their thing. The official gave us a stern warning about going neutral
and we were off again! Problem solved right? Nope.
Another crash (on a different corner), another neutral, and more riders advancing places (including the eventual race winner, for the second time!) Again we were restarted and given 10 laps to go without incident. Until the cool down lap, another crash. Maybe it just wasn't meant to be on this full moon weekend!
This email isn't intended to be whining, but to inform people in OBRA land, that sportsmanship goes a long way, good and bad. I know we were racing and people get all amped up, but aren't we doing this for fun? Anyway, have fun, be safe and don't be afraid to speak up to riders who blatantly disregard the rules. The rider from Benaroya, Andy Luhn, in the Cat 3 crit suffered 1 broken & 2 cracked ribs. He was knocked unconscious for about a minute after the crash. I talked with him last night and he was doing ok.
Heard there was another serious injury but not sure who or when it happened.

Does anyone know how the rest of the fields finished up in the crit at
the T of WW yesterday?
The women's cat 4, Men's cat 4 and the Cat 3 fields were all a messy
meat market. Too much energy I'm thinking from the RR cancellation on
Saturday.
I was just wondering if the crashing continued for the rest of the
fields.
I'd also like to know how that guy faired that crashed on the front
straight and landed flat on his back if anyone knows.
