I'm a relatively new racer who would prefer the inclusion of a 50+

category this summer. And I'm willing to commit to riding almost every

Monday. I'm hoping enough 50+ guys show up to enable that category.

Dear Jim

Is your intention to completely eliminate the 50 + category or

combine

it with another group?

Rather then cancelling the whole 50+ series perhaps you could run a

50 +

series in alternate months or alternate weeks or perhaps start with a

full May or June schedule and see how it goes. . I still think there

are

enough 50+ guys who are interested in racing to have a series .I

agree

that last year the attendence dropped off but was good in 2003. Who

knows what will happen this year. It's not as if it cost any

additional

time or money to run a 50 + race . If the series is cancelled then

the

option for someone over 50 is to ride as pack fill with the 123's or

the 40+ group or the 3,4's . Few of the 50 + guys are going to

contest

the sprints in these categories while with a 50 + series even though

there are fewer racers there is a race dynamic which goes on which is

completely different than if the category is combined with another. .

The age differences become more significant in terms of performance

as

one ages and I for one would welcome a series with smaller groups/

fields . The pace may be slower but the effort expended is just as

hard.

Perhaps your right and there is not enough interest to generate a

field

of racers . But until you at least poll the 50 + racers who might

participate I think cancelling the series is a premature decision .

Just my thoughts
