I like the idea of alternating age and category formats. It provides an

opportunity to race against more people and brings the best masters racers

together for a showdown. I also think the 50+ should be retained but add a

few laps to last years schedule. The old guys have a lot more endurance

than they're given credit for.

Jim,

I just wanted to race, I didn't care if we were racing cats or ages. It was

easier for me, as a beginner, to stay on the pack when it was by cat, than

when it was by age. I got smarter and stronger faster when it was by age

though, because mistakes or weakness meant I was off the back immediately.

I don't know hor much I'll be racing this year, but if I do, it won't much

matter if it's by cat or by age. It'll hurt (a lot) either way. If you do

cats instead of ages, my opinion is to do it 1/2/3 and 4/5, not 3/4/5.

Retaining 50+ sounds like a good idea in any case.

Phil

Regarding the Monday night masters and women series at PIR:

Im the race organizer for the Lakeside Bicycles Monday Night Masters and

Women PIR race Series. PLEASE NOTE: this doesn't effect the Women's

race at all since it is open to all ages!

Im considering mixing it up on monday nights in regards of category

masters racing and age graded masters racing. My plan for the series

would be this, and i need impute for as many interested people as

possible:

-May, July, Sept be Age Graded Categories, then June and August be

Category OR vis versa? more or less of one?

By age graded I mean Masters 30-39, Masters 40-49, Master 50+ and

category graded i mean Masters 1,2,3 and 3,4,5 or 1,2,3; 4,5 and a

possibly a 50+

Issues to think about:

-I understand that by doing anything differently i will make someone

upset, but as a whole do people think that it would hurt competition or

help newer racers become "repeat customers/racers"?

-Would masters really disagree with a category race?

-Would you be likely to race more or less if one was implemented?

If some of the masters remember we did swap back and forth with age

graded and category graded a few years ago, but i don't remember if i

got any bad/good feedback then...

Also, plan on swapping counter clockwise and clockwise each week now for

monday nights...its about time huh?

thanks for any impute
