Depends on tire size and type. With an actual tire diameter of 27" a 48 x
16 would be a bit big, 2.5 inches too long. Since tubulars and 700c
clinchers are a bit smaller than 27" they would likely make it. As I recall
last year everyone using "regular" size wheels was able to roll out very
close with a 3:1 chainring:cog ratio. Things were a bit more difficult for
me on smaller wheels.
