Hi all,
Last year, Whistler's Sugoi Dirt Series visited Oregon for the first time,
holding a mountain bike skills clinic in Hood River. The response was so
great and the camp such a success that they are returning to Oregon to hold
two camps in 2005. The details are below.
Cheers,
Paul
****************
In the past four years, the coaches of the Sugoi Dirt Series women's
technical mountain bike camps have given hundreds of women new skills and
confidence on their bikes. They have passed along the experience and
techniques developed in the course of winning Canadian National
Championships, X-Games and World Championship medals.
This year, the Dirt Series has planned two camps in Oregon: a weekend camp
in Portland July 2-3, hosted by The Bike Gallery and a one-day camp in Hood
River hosted by Mountain View Cycles on July 5. These two groups of riders
will get to experience the personalized skills instruction, flexible group
rides, and super supportive environment that make the Sugoi Dirt Series the
best place to learn.
Each camp's format includes a mix of intensive skill sessions to develop and
perfect technical skills, followed by group rides to put those skills into
practice. The Sugoi Dirt Series' first-ever visit to Portland will offer
campers a full day's instruction and skills practice on Saturday, followed
by a chance to try out those new skills riding at Tillamook State Forest all
day Sunday. In Hood River, the riders will enjoy a morning of skill sessions
in Jackson Park and will then have the afternoon to play on the trails of
Post Canyon.
The program also dedicates time to bike fit and maintenance, and offers a
host of opportunities to demo new gear, including the latest in
full-suspension bike technology from Rocky Mountain. Each day, campers will
be treated to great lunches to refill after the fun and exertions-Chipotle
is supplying the lunches in Portland while Subway has signed on as the
sponsor in Hood River.
With a limit of 36 riders per camp, the participant to coach ratio never
exceeds 6:1. The range of skills taught covers everything from the
fundamentals of correct body positioning, shifting and braking, to advanced
maneuvers such as wheelie drops, bunny hops and manuals. The Sugoi Dirt
Series coaches are world class and the small camp size ensures that every
rider gets the individual attention and personal feedback that they need to
progress.
Based in Whistler, BC, the Series began with three camps and the simple goal
of getting more women excited about the sport. Since then, it has grown by
leaps and bounds every year. Its 2005 schedule features a total of 19 camps
in four states and two Canadian provinces.
Exact camp details and registration information can be found at
www.dirtseries.com <http://www.dirtseries.com/> .
The Sugoi Dirt Series is presented by Rocky Mountain and supported by
PowerBar, Nokian, Fox Racing Shox, Syncros, Hoots, Deuter, Carrera Eyewear,
Lake, Giro, WTB, Pedros, Timbuk2, Brave Soldier, Sole Custom Footbeds,
Kryptonite, Sea to Sky Ford, Red Bull, Sleeman Breweries and Kicking Horse
Coffee.
