The eighth edition of the Race Across Oregon was held last weekend.   We want

to thank all of our racers and volunteers alike. We'd also like to thank

Beaverton Bike N Hike, Peak Sports in Corvallis Oregon and the are Trek demo

rep. Pretty amazing what these guys did for us: At 4:30 a.m. last Thursday

one of our participants (Cadet Bryant) was driving on 205. He and his crew had

just traveled 2,300 miles from Texas and were less than 10 miles from the

start hotel when their bike rack tore off the roof of their car. Unfortunately

for Bryant his 2004 carbon fiber Giant TRC and brand new Softride were

attached to the rack at the time. Two semi trucks later the bikes were reduced to

carbon splinters and flattened aluminum.   The only part that remained

undamaged was a cassette. The folks at Beaverton Bike N Hike stepped up

immediately with one of their team Giant TRCs and took the time both Thursday and

Friday for bike fit. Meanwhile, Dave at Peak Sports got on the phone with Carl

the Trek demo rep to see what they could come up with. At 10:30 Thursday night

Carl found a brand new - yup, in the box! - Trek 2300 in storage. He called

Dave who went in early Friday to begin the bike build. Greg Rouse finished

it up and one of our officials had it on the way to Portland by 1:30 Friday

afternoon. Thanks to these individuals Bryant was able to race last weekend.

He rode 406 miles before having to dnf due to problems which didn't relate

to the bikes. Thank you once again Beaverton Bike N Hike, Peak Sports and

Trek for making this happen.
