It's not too late to sign the petition. It seems to

be having some

impact already. Read update below.

Thanks!

UPDATE: The fantastic response to this petition is

not going

unnoticed. The vice-president of the UCI said it was

"unprecedented in

cycling." However, there have been some unhelpful,

anti-BMX sentiments

expressed in some of the comments on the petition.

The inclusion of BMX

racing (ie fast legs, no half-pipes) in the Beijing

Olympics has been

known about since July 2003. It's not a 'them or us'

matter. BMX is in,

and I welcome that. According to IOC rules, two

cycle events have to be

deleted. But the UCI should not have put forward for

deletion the kilo

or the women's 500m sprint, and could, perhaps,

reverse the decision if

enough people complain. I plan to close the petition

on 21st June and

deliver it to the UCI and the IOC on 22nd June.

Carlton Reid, editor,

BikeBiz.com. NOTE: If you want more background on

the UCI's

rock-and-a-hard-place decision, and why the UCI says

you should direct

your anger at the IOC instead, paste this into your

browser:

OK OBRA-ites. Let's drown those ridiculous

bureaucrats at the UCI by

signing the petition below (see URL) to keep the

kilo and 500m in the

Olympics. It's only a matter of time before the evil

empire of the USCF

will think about doing the same. Thanks.
