Interesting, since Leonard Zinn just wrote a Velo News article saying

remove the latex. You should send him an e-mail at Velo News.

Generally it will take Fast Tack about a year or so to loosen the base

tape

from the tire. It is a problem, but generally not a big one. It won't

do

it right away, at least not in my experience. It might be more of a

problem

if you make the mistake of scrapping the latex off the rim strip.

Unfortunately many "experts" will suggest hat you do this in the

mistaken

belief that it will improve the adhesion. The problem is that the rim

strip

is coasted with latex specifically to prevent the rim glue passing

through

the base tape to loosen the tape/tire interface. The latex should be

left

on the base tape. The only time you would want to scrape it off would

be if

you were using shellac or some other non-contact type cement to glue the

tire on. I don't think anyone actually does that any more.

If you used 3M Fast Tack to glue the tires on the rim, it can be a

common

occurrence.

Tire failure. . . Rim strip peeled away from the tubular, must have

been a

bad lot, tires were new.

At least all the guys are okay, just a little scuffed up.

What I think we all "really" want to know is: Why did "4" members of

Team Rubicon crash in the 1/2 field Sunday in Vancouver?????

Seriously.....Coincidence??? Equipment failure???
