rides in the Wallowas

All the paved roads in that area are nice to ride. Just bring a map and go. I really enjoyed riding part of the Wallowa Mountain Loop. The whole loop is a couple of hundred miles, but you can ride part of it out-and-back for a day trip. The directions are simple. From Joseph, ride east on the Imnaha Hwy and turn right on Wallowa Mountain Rd into the national forest, toward Hwy 86 and the town of Halfway. Just turn around and return when you've done half the miles you intended to. Beautiful scenery, descent pavement and many long hills. Bring food and lots of water (or drink from streams). There are a couple of N.F. campgrounds where you can get water too, but they are quite a long way in.
