I want to commend most of you for wonderful number placement at last week's
Banana Belt. Of the 400+ riders only a small handful had unreadable numbers.
This next week calls for rain (sorry Jeff) so please think about how you
plan to place your numbers. Reading numbers under plastic rain coats is
difficult but can be done if it has to, other solutions would be preferred.
There was a small problem in picking the first hotspot for the Pro1/2's as 3
out of the top 6 had vests/jackets covering their numbers. We only placed
the riders that had numbers that could be seen and read. The rule regarding
this is

8.3 - No rider shall cut, fold, mutilate, trim or apply stickers to the race
number, nor shall they sell, trade or give the issued number to another
individual. Penalty or disqualification is at the discretion of the Race
Official.
8.4 - Unreadable numbers may not be placed.

Picking 400 numbers is a tricky job (yes especially if you do not turn on
the camera -sorry again Cat 3s) so your assistance is really welcome.

OBRA members

As an official we try not to make mistakes. To help us out I would like to see the second number on all riders at TT's and all road race as we did last year. I suggest putting the second number above the pockets for an easy read. Last years placement on the pockets did not work.

So please help out all the officials this year and show up with both numbers.

Hi, I say my number out loud when I'm crossing the finish line, in a

multisport event or TT.

To the riders

Considering the number of riders, over 300, that we had at the Banana

Belt Race number placement was quite good. We did have some problems

and those stemmed from 1- camelbacks covering numbers, 2- numbers

placed too high on the back, 3- numbers placed on jersey pockets that

read sideways (the same way the pockets go) 4- numbers on the side that

do not get pinned tightly so the fabric is wrinkled and we can't tell

if you have 2,3 or 4 digits in the number, 5- vests covering the

number, 6- not having enough pins to keep the number from not flapping

and 7- coming across the finish line with your hands up in the air thus

hiding the number and taking the risk of being DQ'd for raising hands

in a close sprint. When you pin your number on your jersey keep in

mind that we are standing on the side, reading the numbers as you fly

by and that when we miss numbers we review the camera and it is placed

in a fixed position looking from the side onto the sides of your

bodies. So the camera and the officials cannot read numbers that are

not placed well.
