Michael Rasmussen asked me to put together a summary of this year's
crashes and if legal charges were filed. Here's what I have. Please let
me know if I missed anything.
I think it's worth noting that in 5 of these 9 crashes, arrests have
been made and charges have been filed, and in the remaining 4 crashes,
it's not clear that the motorist was at fault. The only one that really
stands out to me is the Eric Kautzky case; the driver wasn't speeding,
but his car did "drift into the bike lane," and it's hard for me not to
see that as at least negligent. But I haven't done a ton of research on
that one yet.

9/5 Gareth Allen Parker, 99E south of Oregon City. Hit-and-run;
cyclist died. Driver Christopher Lee Amick was arrested and faces
charges of first-degree manslaughter, second-degree manslaughter and
felony hit-and-run.
9/3 Christopher Burris, NE MLK, hit-and-run, cyclist died. Driver
Anthony Troy Saunders has been arrested and charged with manslaughter
and hit-and-run charges.
8/6 Jason Byas, SE Foster near 84th Ave, hit and critically injured,
Tribune says Byas was ?highly intoxicated?. No citation issued as far
as I know (as in, no subsequent media reports; I haven't called the
officer)
8/1 Frank T. Vanerstrom, Delta park hit and run, cyclist died. Driver
George Hoff arrested and charged with second-degree manslaughter and
felony hit-and-run
7/31 Roger James Watt, SE Milwaukie and Powell, hit and critically
injured. Driver Anthony Blankenship was arrested on charges of
assault, driving under the influence of intoxicants and reckless
driving. Note that Blankenship also had a suspended license.
6/29 Brenda S. Elliot, Springwater Trail at SE 252nd Ave at SE
Telford Rd, cyclist died. Cyclist was wearing headphones and did not
yield right-of-way. No citations issued.
6/28 Kristine Ann Okins, SW Broadway and Washington. No clarity on
what happened or whose fault it was. No citations issued.
6/18 Eric Kautzky, 56, Tualatin-Sherwood Road at Wildrose Place.
Driver Joel Flores was not cited. DA will decide if charges will be
filed.
5/30 Noah Cardamon, 23, SE 49th and Stark. Driver Dana Abdullah, 18,
was drunk at the time, and has been charged with one count of
criminally negligent homicide. Her passenger, Sheena Dawn Foster, is
charged with one count of hindering prosecution and one count of
interfering with a police officer.
