Subject: [OBRA Chat] PIR lap splits for 9/13
I've attached PIR lap splits for last Tuesday in an Excel
spreadsheet. Sorry, we did not get lap splits for the women and cat 4/5
races. I also must apologize for taking so long to get these out.
The cat 1-4 race was, by far, faster than anything we did last year.
The cat 3's gobbled up the cat 4 riders on the second lap with a
stunning 29.6 mph average speed. Once the two groups merged, the pace
continued at well over 28 mph. That would have been fast enough for the
3/4 group to win every handicap race that was run at PIR last year,
going away!
The 1/2 group was equally amazing. Based on last week's results, I
made a prediction that the 1/2 group would break 30 mph on one lap. In
fact, starting with the second lap, the group never dropped below 30
mph for the first seven laps. The average speeds for the first seven
laps were 28.7, 30.7, 30.3, 30.2, 30.2, 30.4, and 30.5 mph. Keep in
mind, I think the fastest time for a single lap last year was 28.8 mph.
Great job everyone. In spite of the crash near the end of the 11th
lap, I saw great improvement in bike handling over the previous week.
The pacelines were just a little tighter, and quite a bit smoother.
I did have a complaint about some yelling in the women's and cat 4/5
races. First of all, please be nice to one another out there. This is a
learning environment, and people do make mistakes. Second, don't get
offended if someone yells at you. Its pretty hard to communicate in a
normal voice when your heart rate is at 180. Some times, yelling is the
only way to communicate. If you feel it was misplaced, find the rider
afterwards, and talk. Chances are, the two of you will agree, it wasn't
a big deal. Don't allow yourself to go home mad!
We had 113 riders this week. The turnout has been amazing. Lets see
120 next week! And I promise to have lap splits for everybody next
week.
