It's hard to convince a race promoter to move a race to summer when you

hear real, hard stats like Silverton had the highest attendance in years

in the pouring rain and hypothermic cold when in years past Silverton

was in the dry summer. It is really the racers fault that this

happened...I was not here last year but I heard it was 100 degrees at

Silverton that day? I got to believe that is more of a freak of nature

in Oregon than the pouring rain and hypothermic cold? So I guess for

all the Oregon racers, which probability would you rather have?

Attendance numbers for Silverton say pouring cold rain! I have raced in

NorCal district, SoCal district, and all over the Midwest and it was

always the opposite, which seems like common sense to me? Personally, I

have raced in 120 degree Arizona sun and I still like that better than

45 and cold and wet...I just took a Camelback for that hot day and I was

fine.



It all don't make sense to me, but I just moved here...I'm sure it will

make sense to me some year...



That is why it might make more sense to just try and skew the racing

season by maybe...2 weeks at first instead of doing something more

radical and turning the racing dates upside down...



I did ask the Mt Tabor promoter to skew the Mt. Tabor series by one

week, with the first race starting the week AFTER Mt. Hood. That will

give one more race in July and one less conflict with racers wanting to

do both Tabor and Hood/Elkhorn/Cascades. We will see what happens...



but as I have said before throughout the year, I certainly appreciate

the OBRA racing scene here. There are definitely racing options here

that exist nowhere else in all the other districts I have raced in.

On the other hand, I appreciate the effort of the promoters to even have

the races, and am thankful that they exist at all. I would rather race

in the spring than not race at all.
