Actually, there has been recent discussion of creating a separate pro
championship since there is now believed to be a sufficient number of
quality pros in the U.S. to have a good race. Part of the original
reason for the inclusion of non-U.S. racers was due to the limited U.S.
ranks, they were needed to have a quality field.
As for N.W. Championships, our race requires an OBRA and is really an
OBRA championship. We have never attempted to draw from more than the
Oregon and S.W. Washington area. Now that is a good name for the races
"Oregon and S.W. Washington Championship." Accurate and cumbersome.
It seems we all have too much time on our hands if this has become a big

The only reason the USPRO Championship road race is open to foreigners
is b/c it's part of the Title Sponsorship agreement that the race be a
UCI sancantioned event. The UCI requires an event to have a certain
number of foreign teams part of the race. The United States is the only
race i'm aware of that allows foreigners to compete in the national
championship.
I would tend to agree with the gentleman who thought it better to name
them OBRA Championships rather than Oregon State Championships. What
about a Northwest Championship?

Yes George it really does... It's fine for out-of-staters to
compete and win but that certainly does not make them the fastest Oregon
resident in their category and class. That jersey is a very treasured
item and should be reserved for Oregon residents, or be changed to OBRA
Champion.

I do not know how many people know this, but the rules
of OBRA say

they are an OBRA member. I am already aware of a
Washington rider who
is riding around their state with an Oregon state symbol
on their back
from being the Oregon 'state' champion.
I just want these race titles to accurately reflect the
rules of OBRA.
Oregon does not have a state championship, at least in
terms of awarding
that title to Oregon residents.
