I am again this year looking for sponsors that would be interested in
purchasing sign space at the velodrome. Below is a description of the
program. If you know of anyone that might be interested in this please feel
free to show them the information or let me know so I can contact them.

Alpenrose Velodrome is a unique facility. Located on the ground of the
Alpenrose Dairy, it is one of only 18 currently active conventional bike
racing tracks in the US. The Alpenrose Velodrome is one of the busiest. I
am writing to ask you to consider sponsorship for the 2002 season.
Sponsorship purchases advertising space on signboards at the Alpenrose
Velodrome. We produce the signs according to your design. We will cover
the cost of production of the signs. There are two types of signs:
Fence Signs - These signs are 3 feet by 8 feet. They are done on high
quality wooden sign board. The signs are mounted on the track fence on the
back stretch and are easily visible from the spectator stands. The cost for
display of Fence Signs for the 2002 season will be $500 per sign.
Record Board Signs - These signs are 10.5 inches by 15 inches. They are
mounted on the record board at the entrance to the velodrome. The cost for
display of Record Board Signs for the 2002 season will be $200 per sign.
The signs are put up prior to the first racing event in April and will
remain there through the cyclocross events at the velodrome in the fall.
The signs are visible during all racing events, during training sessions and
whenever people see the velodrome. This means that your signs will be seen
7 days per week, throughout the summer cycling season. The cost of display
may be paid with cash or with product, coupon redeemable for product or
trade-out.
Our premier event for this season will again be the Alpenrose Challenge,
July 19 through the 21. This is the Portland stop for the American
Velodrome Challenge series, a nation wide series of races at the various
velodromes organized by the American Track Racing Association. This is our
fourth year for this event and it remains the largest prize list for a track
cycling event in North America for 2001. We are negotiating with Marty
Nothstein, the Olympic Gold Medal winner in the sprints in Sydney, to return
for the 2002 race. Last season the event was featured on the front page of
the Oregonian sports section, above coverage of Lance Armstrong?s Tour de
France win. The top 2/3 of the page were devoted to bike racing! We also
has coverage on all the local TV stations and regional radio coverage. In
2001 there were over 5,000 spectators at the Alpenrose Challenge. Your
signs will be displayed at this event.
New for 2002 will be a youth program. We have purchased 10 new small Fuji
bikes to facilitate running sessions for children 10 years of age and older.
Other events for 2002 include;
The Alpenrose Six Day, the only six day race in North America, July 29
through August 3
Thursday evening race series, May through September
Friday evening race series May through August
State Championships are held for all age groups and for team racing
Oregon State Games
In total there are more than 50 days of racing scheduled at Alpenrose for
2002. There are 80 plus formal training or instructional days.
We have a developmental program to introduce riders to the velodrome. Some
of these riders are established road or mountain bike competitors but many
are new to the sport entirely. There will be weekly training/instructional
sessions on Wednesdays, April into September. We have a program to rent
race quality bicycles to riders taking these classes and competing in
events. Regular training sessions are conducted at the velodrome by several
of the local cycling teams.
Our competitive events have been drawing 50 plus riders per session.
Spectator admission is free. The permanent seating has been expanded to
hold 600. Often this seating is at capacity. Riders use the velodrome for
training on a daily basis. In addition the velodrome is viewed by people
attending other events at the facility. The velodrome is located in a park
that is operated by the Alpenrose Dairy and is open to the public. In
addition to the velodrome there
are softball diamonds, picnic grounds, a rodeo stadium, quarter midget car
racing track and amusement park. You can see more information about our
program at www.obra.org/track. There is more information about Alpenrose
Dairy at www.alpenrose.com.
Please let me know if this is an opportunity that you might be interested
in.
