The costs are per person regardless of age. OBRA encourages entry fee
of $5.00 for juniors. If the race organizer does this entry fee then
OBRA waives its fee. But the insurance and officials fees are still
based on per rider participation.

I have a seven year old that is just starting to compete in gymnastics.
The costs for this are quite high and we do all the sacrificing that we
can to provide this for her. Already we are seeking scholarships and
grant money from the local groups to help defray the costs that will
only grow throughout the years.
Cycling is no different. I'm sure that many parents out there are more
than happy to 'subsidize' their childs endevours. I empathize with
those who struggle to give all they can to their children and still must
sometimes say no...
So I ask this... from what I've read - the numbers are relatively low
for Junior turnout...could the subsidies be built in to the overall cost
of the event? Can't a junior race free with a paying adult? Anything
we can do to help bring juniors to the race is what counts!

My opinion on any governing body is the same there is enough revenue
generated by Adult racers to subsidize junior racing. Oregon could be
the
next thing to the Olympic training grounds in Colorado if Oregon
racers
start to embrace junior racing for it's true potential. I don't know
about
you but watching Carson Miller beating up on adults is exciting and a
tribute to the future of the the sport (Sorry OLD GUYS).Let alone the
invaluble experience Kent Johnston brings to his kids as coach/active
racer.
If every racer who could afford it sponsored one junior racer that
would
bring hundreds of juniors into a system that now struggles to field
100
at
any race. Compare that to euro racing where juniors and development
programs
are there most precious commodity. Thus the euro dominance of the
sport
in
almost all disciplines. No offense Lance,Levi, and the rest. Just
another
thought.

can you say UCI. the non UCI cost for the junior race is $12. the UCI
junior is $20, some of that $20 goes to the UCI for all the work they
do
for us? they do do work for us right?

Maybe off topic but why are the Junior cross races so expensive
with the
tremendous turnout for these events promoters would encourage
junior
also
known as future racers by not making racing cost prohibitive. I
could be
alone here but after bike shopping and race fees it is quite a
leap for
an
eight to ten race season. I think my main concern is the future of
Oregon
racing if the juniors programs are not somehow subsidized. Just a
thought.
