Meadors, Ivan C
Actually, Tim, I am sure this was not you the complaints were about. The
guys you cut in front of were the juniors; you were near the back of
field and there were only about (8) Master's category Bs behind you!

At first I thought I was this guy! But maybe not I since some of my
fellow Master B's say this guy crashed early, I didn't crash.....early.
But I did "jump in" to this field into the 4th or 5th row for the start.
But Man! I got there 20 minutes early and it was jammed already. I asked
the field for mercy and three kind guys (not my teammates) offered me a
spot mid-field. This must have been about 40th or so in the group?
"Thank you!" to them again.
Is there a rule against this kind of thing? I see it all the time at
crits, road races, and cross races. I'm not talking about forcing your
way in, but if you ask and someone in the field lets you in, you do it.
I've let people in before and I'll do it again, and I'll probably ask
someone to let me in again. What we don't want is people lining up in
the starting lanes on their wind trainers 40 minutes before their race
just to make sure they get a good starting spot and a good warm up,
right??
I think you get what you give in bike racing. I've let plenty of people
into the pace line, or the pack, or the start at crits and Road races
(if they ask nicely) and I've been let in myself (if I ask nicely). Give
a little, get a little, right?
It brings up a good discussion though. At events with 100+ riders in
your field, it seems weird to have to choose between a warm up and
getting lined up 40 minutes early...
Maybe some method to the "line up madness" is warranted at cross, but it
isn't a unique issue to cyclocross, in my view anyway.

Ok I kind of hate to say this but I'm going to any way.
Just before the start of our race some one (you know who you are) lifted
your bike over the fence and in to the second row, now you may be fast,
but it was not fare to me and the people around me that had been there
for 15 min.
Next time I'll call you on it!!!
