I just emailed my Hwy 217 comments to 'tra-@metro.dst.or.us'. I may
print out my email and mail it to
Metro Transportation Planning Department, 600 NE Grand Ave., Portland,
OR 97232
(though I did get a response from an actual person saying my comments
have been added to whatever collection thingy they have)
They are accepting comments through October 30 and having a public
hearing 5-7pm October 19 at the Beaverton Public Library.
I quickly read the phase 2 recommendation on hwy217.org. My big beef is
I don't see any consideration of maximizing public transportation, like
adding MAX tracks along 217. All of the options are 'pave more roads'.
Well, actually there was one short sentence about MAX, thougth not
explicity saying 'MAX', printing in small letters at the top of page 4:
"Commuter rail from Wilsonville to Beaverton".
They do make bicycle recommendations, however, riding around the 217
area I don't see it as big improvements. They talk about improving
Fanno Creek trail, but I have not found that trail system good for
bicycle commuting. Too many roads to cross, too many pedestrians to run
over.
