I grew up at Tahoe. Cool as it might be, the only way they could run a
stage anwhere near the lake would be to have a plan B and skirt the
foothills heading south in the event of a snow event of any kind. Like
you said it could be 60 degrees but I would NOT want to roll those dice!
I still have an NDOT bike race sign hanging in my garage from the '86
Coors Classic when it ran right thru my stomping grounds. Of course that
was in August!

have been skiing at Squaw Valley & Alpine Meadows in late February
plenty of times, and the weather at 2 PM was typically 50F to 60F. If
the weather was good enough for bikini wearing women, seeking a tan (um
they always got fried), it's good enough for cyclist wearing high tech
cycle wears. Although I think it would have been cooler if they went
150+ miles south, and had a mountain ITT from Yosemite Valley to the Top
of Glacier Point, or at least to the plow line. I would drive to see
that!
Oh to all of those pessimist who think the weather is going to suck on
the California Coast the last week in February. The typical high for
the last week in February for Monterey, Big Sur, San Luis Obsipo and
Santa Barbara is the low to mid 60's, and the 30 year average for
rainfall for all February is 2 to 3 inches! I would take that over the
weather in Portland the last week in February.

to see the guys beside the San Francisco Grand Prix when they are all
spent. It will be interesting to see who attends since this race is two
weeks before Paris-Nice and the weather should be probably better that
what it is in Europe. I would put good money on it that Levi attends
since he has a house in Santa Rosa which is the start of the race. The
Discovery team will be holding their training camp in the Santa Barbara
in January as well.
