Did you know there are 1,000 children in foster care
in Lane County?
Many foster care children experience multiple foster
care placements and school disruptions. These factors
can lead to lower than average academic achievement
and low self esteem. Many children in foster care
have few if any of their own
belongings. Books are personal and portable gifts for
children who are often forced to leave many parts of
their lives behind. Give a brand new book to a child
in foster care for the holidays. You're giving
something that will stay with them and inspire a love
of reading. Here's how you can help:
Please help us reach our goal of 1,000 books for 1,000
kids in foster care!
1. Buy a new children's book (or several!) this
weekend.
2. Drop off these books at one of these locations
between Monday, 10/31 - Sunday, 11/6:
Dutch Bros. Coffee Company kiosks* ? Any of
their nine Eugene/Springfield locations

3. Spread the word. Forward this email to any
friends, family or business associates in the Lane
County area and ask them to support this worthwhile
cause

the life of a child!

This book drive has been organized by members of the
Citizen Review Board (CRB). CRB members are
court-appointed
volunteers that review individual case plans of
children in foster care and make recommendations on
their case plans to the
Juvenile Court, the Department of Human Services (DHS)
and other parties involved in the cases of foster
children. Through
reviewing case files of foster children, CRB
volunteers see firsthand the desperate needs of these
children. This book drive
was developed based on knowing the needs of foster
children. The goal of this year?s book drive is to
put at least one new
book into the hands of every foster child in Lane
County. Local CRB members have set a goal of 1,000
new books for
the 1,000 children in foster
care in Lane County.
