Yes. Ya'll should have come. Anyway, our fine Santiam Bicycles/Golden
Valley Brewery team was well represented at the FIAC nats. It was a
little strange racing in bone dry conditions in November but nice for
sure!
Mike Romasco may have contended for the victory in the Masters 45+ but
washout resulting in a rolled tire slowed him down. Unfortunately his
pit crew (me) was a little slow and he had to ride a lap before a wheel
change. He rode well and finished fifth.
Brothers Jacques-Maynes were up to their usual and hammered it off the
start with a teammate in tow. I was up to my usual (sitting in the pack)
and couldn't get up there to respond immediately. At the first opening I
got on the gas and may have been able to close it with a bit of help but
it seemed that the other Norcal contingent was satisfied to race for
4th. Being the lazy sack I am, I kicked back until the last lap and
almost grabbed third but just didn't make it. Fun in the sun, although
the long sleeves prevented a tan!
Oh, well. My annual OBRA license landed me a 2nd place medal and a
podium shot! Go figure...
