The name of the event series/type slips my mind, but when I lived in England a couple years back, I heard about a FULL CONTACT, grass track cycling event. It was pretty much short races with full contact allowed. Sounded super fun. I'm sure if someone does a search at the British Cycling website or even google they'll find out more about it.

I have always wondered why there is not more grass track racing. If I lived somewhere that did not have a velodrome I would definitely try to get together some grass track racing. In fact, with just a bit of work a grass track could be very close to a velodrome.

I've been looking into interesting and 'epic' adventures for the new love of my life... my fixed-gear bike. I don't live in Portland + it's not Track season so the options seemed limited until I started googling.
Folks are doing some big rides fixed... centuries, double centuries and the Furnace Creek 508! That last one sounds a bit mental but I wouldn't mind dipping my toe into the Water Melon or the STP fixed as I am both dumb and obsessed.
The other exciting diversion was Grass Track Racing. All the fun and none of the velodrome. Fixed cross? Flat track? Off-road criterium? YES!
Is anyone out there (especially in the Eugene area) as transFIXED with gearlessness as me?
