I have always been perfectly happy to use the raised sidewalk on the St

Johns Bridge. I feel a lot safer up there, and I don't go any slower.

After I have reached the top of the bridge, if there is no traffic, I

will often hop off the sidewalk and then ride down hill toward the other

end of the bridge. I can just about keep up with traffic on the "down"

side, which ever direction I may be going (usually heading east).



Yeah, it would have been super-cool to have bike lanes on the bridge

after all the construction, but sometimes we don't get what we want. If

the sidewalk was not there at all that would be a different story. While

I certainly support anyone's argument that we have a right to be on the

road (and on the bridge), sometimes our rights and our safety are two

different things. As I've said before, law don't mean s#!t when you're

dead.



The State of Florida used to have this highway safety campaign called

"Arrive Alive!" Sometimes we all have to suck it up and remember that we

are not the dominant species on the road.
