Being assertive yet sensibly controlling traffic is very important as a
corner marshal. Course marshals keep the race safe for the cyclists and
the race caravan by keeping cars and pedestrians off the course, while
keeping the racers on it. Marshals also help educate the crowd and
promote enthusiasm among the spectators. Your duties may include
alerting cyclists of caution areas or turns; crowd control; traffic
control; or acting as a pep leader. Specifically would include stopping
and slowing traffic on roadways going into racecourse when racers are
passing through. Also would include keeping intersection clear of
traffic, so congestion doesn't happen.
Be available for questions about the race, route, who to contact and
public concern.
