RE: Masters Racers at TW

Any OBRA Masters members fit enough to do 3 hard days and

who did not ride Willamette this year MISSED OUT on a great

event. Any whining or moaning is unacceptable. Great

courses and great competition, what more can be offered?

How does a promoter go about guaranteeing that you will have

a field size of over 50 riders for a stage race? I'm sure

there are several promoters who would be interested in

learning how this can be done.

For your info I am posting this note to you, Larry and the

entire remailer list.

I think you are drop dead wrong. You and the masters that

did not attend are the problem. Larry tried real hard to

fashion a group that would accomodate the USCF/OBRA license

differences. To do this and not require the OBRA members to

spend an extra $45 he has to have "Cat 5" riders in each

field. By being a USCF Cat 5 the rider had the choice of

buying the full meal deal or buying 3 one day memberships at

$5 apiece. Many, many, many riders took advantage of this

offer. He saved the riders an additional output of cash and

this allowed the Cat 3 OBRA riders who have never had an

OBRA license to compete within their ability level. It also

allowed the "masters' to include the Cat 5's as this was not

specified in the age criteria. Larry did this to make it

easier for the Oregonians. They responded by not attending

the masters event. The majority of Masters were from out of

state. Frankly the racing and the courses were amazing, the

organization did an improved job. You lost out because you

and your teammates choose to contest rather than compete.

What can I say...as I'm sitting in my office on Friday

morning so pissed >off that I can hardly see straight

(between sips of my Starbucks Latte). >This is exactly what

I (and several cat. 1, 2 riders (old enough to race

masters) wanted to avoid at the TW.....giving you and your

crew $95 and >hedge that there would be more than 27 masters

the night before a 4x stage >road race as we contemplate

another year of racing at the TW with not >enough people.

I'm guessing that you'll have slightly over 30 racers for

this event (according to your conversation with Lance

Coffel)...which is >crazy for a stage race. Even if you had

50 racers...that's not enough for >a stage race. This is the

third year in a row....???!?!?!?! Do I need to >say more? I

truly think that this could have been handled differently.

I'd >be interested in Steve Hollands comments right about

now....

Larry if you knew me better you'd know that I'm a very nice

easy going >guy...its very unfortunate that I feel the way I

do...especially after a few of

our earlier email conversations. You might ask

yourself...'I don't need to >hear this'...well...look at it

this way...I paid $95 for the opportunity >to vent to you as

I sit in my office the day of the 1st stage...which both

Lance, myself and several other NW racers won't be

attending this year.

Sincerely

A lost customer.......(that's raced for 15 years; and

promoted for 8 years)

27 masters and counting....there are a few Cat3/4/5's that

are old enough to

race masters...so the total may increase...plus I'm getting

lots of

inquiries about the masters field too..

cheers...
