Jim Anderson
To all NW Race Organizers -
Probably not many bike race organizers are aware of the The division of
Continuing Education and the Arts & Administration Program partnered in
Fall 1999 to develop
a Festival & Event Management Certificate Program.
With support from the Oregon Tourism Commission, the
Certificate Program has been endorsed by the
International Festivals & Events Association, the Oregon
Festivals & Events Association, and the Convention &
Visitors Association of Lane County Oregon. Staff and
volunteers working with community festivals, non-profit
organizations, recreation sites, or businesses that
host special events will find various opportunities to gain
the insights and tools essential in producing successful
events.
In this program you can take one workshop or finish the certificate in
event and fesitval management from University of Oregon (see website for
all the info). You dont have to be in Oregon to do this.
If you are serious about your event, and would like a chance to network
and learn professional practices in the event world i'm urging all race
organizers to take a workshop. Some of them range from the basics of
managment to sponsorship, marketing and behind the event (planning,
volunteers, and timelines).
