OBRA ANNUAL MEETING

January 19 will be the OBRA banquet and annual meeting. This meeting is

your chance to have input into how OBRA is run and help shape the future of

bike racing in Oregon. Agenda items may be suggested by OBRA

members. Voting at the annual meeting is by club representative so make

sure that your club sends a representative and that your representative

knows how to represent your interests. At a minimum we will discuss and

vote to decide:

-Election of Board members

-Changes to OBRA racing rules

-Changes to the BAR competition rules

Board members

In November the current board members held a retreat to consider OBRA's

future and how to implement programs to improve bike racing in

Oregon. This retreat produced a resolution to increase the number of board

members and to assign specific tasks to each board member. OBRA currently

has 4 board members who serve 2 year terms. Ron Magnus and Ed Garfield

will serve again in 2002. Jeff Mitchem and Mike Murray's terms expire this

year. Under the new plan there will be 6 board members. Each board member

will be responsible for supervising and developing OBRA programs with

regards to their responsibility. The responsibilities will be:

- Membership services - Programs which provide benefit to individual

members, clubs and race organizers. Examples: Membership list maintenance,

insurance, race numbers, publications, first aid program.

- Athlete development - Programs to improve the quality of the racers both

collectively and individually. Examples: Oregon Cycling conference, Oregon

Cycling Training camp, Oregon Cup.

- Venue development and protection - Collecting information on current and

potential race venues to facilitate race promotion.

- Marketing and promotion - Programs to maintain current and solicit new

members and sponsors. Programs to increase the general public awareness of

bike racing.

- Equipment - Overseeing maintenance and purchase of race promotion equipment

- Mountain bike racing - Representing the special concerns of mountain bike

racers and race organizers.

Board members will distribute these responsibilities among themselves after

election.

All this means that we need to elect 4 board members at this upcoming

meeting. Please communicate nominations to Candi Murray at

cmur-@obra.org or 503-667-6220. You may nominate yourself or any other

members.
