Tour De Roses Cycling Series Announces Official Sanctioned Event with

the Portland Rose Festival Association

Portland, Oregon - 2/7/02

The Tour De Roses Cycling Series is back in 2002 with renewed vigor and

strength it once had when it was first developed. The Tour De Roses

Cycling Series is June 9th and 16th held at Portland International

Raceway. The bicycle races will be held in conjunction with the Rose

Cup, C.A.R.T Car Races and eXtreme Sports Show which take place on each

of the race days at PIR. The bicycle races have not been part of the

car races and Portland Rose Festival Association for three years and

before that were part of the organization over a 10 year tradition.

Therefore, it is a unique opportunity to be able to revive and renew the

energy for this event in 2002.

"The partnership with the motorsports organizing group (Global Events),

Portland Rose Festival Association and Portland International Raceway

increases bicycle racing awareness, and renews the importance of this

race to the cycling community," said Jim Anderson, Tour De Roses Cycling

Series Race Director. Now in his 5th year of producing, managing and

organizing bicycle races, Jim Anderson outlined his goals for the Tour

De Roses Cycling Series as positioning the race series and bicycle

racing in general to new markets, increasing the purse and scope of the

event.

As a official sanctioned event of the Portland Rose Festival Association

the cycling series receive widespread advance publicity in more than

120,000 brochures and programs distributed locally, regionally and

nationally by the organization. Sanctioned events are also included in

the Rose Festival General Media Guide; provided to local, and regional

media and tourism centers and on their website (www.rosefestival.org).

Along with these, some other benefits include event listing on the Pepsi

Waterfront Village soda cup which is estimated at 1.5 million

distribution. With these points it is clear the Tour De Roses will be

one of the best marketed bicycle races on the Oregon Bicycle Racing

Association calendar and a one to be sure not to miss. The Tour De Roses

Cycling Series is on June 9th and 16th 2002.
