ALONG THE ROLLING GRAVEL AND DIRT ROAD CLIMBS COMBINED WITH FAST, TECHNICAL

SINGLETRACK DESCENTS. *Proceeds benefit the scholarships and activities of

the Newport High School National Honor Society and Mountain Bike Club*

This is the 7th annual Coast Hills Classic, renamed this year in honor of

co-founder Ben Eder, who was lost at sea this past December in a crabbing

accident. As a sophomore at NHS and a member of the Mountain Bike Club,

Ben began the race with a number of his classmates and his family has been

involved as volunteers and sponsors in every one of our races. This year?s

event honors the memory of this outstanding and deeply missed young man.

FUN FOR THE KIDS: 1/2 mile kids race for ages 6 and under, 7-8,

9-10! 1:30 p.m. start. There is no entry fee. Kids registration at the

event beginning at 12 noon. Prizes (from Shimano), goody bag, and t-shirt

(courtesy of Georgia-Pacific) for ALL participants!!!



REGISTRATION:

*Pre-registration is strongly encouraged! There is a 300 rider field

limit! However, that being said the fields of the last 3 yrs have been

180-250, so don?t let the limit scare you away! If you decide to race

day-of, there shouldn?t be a problem?so come experience one of the best

mountain bike races in the state!

*PRE-REGISTRATION MUST BE RECEIVED BY MAY 13th*



Race day registration opens at 8:30 a.m. and CLOSES 20 minutes before each

start. You can also register the day before (and pay only a $5 late fee

<except Beg class?no late fee>), Saturday May 18th from 12-4 p.m. at ?The

Bike Shop?, 223 NW Nye Street in Newport. Course will be marked for

pre-ride after 1 p.m. on Saturday.



START/FINISH AND REGISTRATION LOCATION:

Newport is located due west from Corvallis, OR. From I-5 North or South,

take State Highway 20 West. Start/Finish is at Mike Miller Educational

Park, about two miles south of the Newport Yaquina Bay Bridge on US Hwy

101, watch for the sign. There is NO PARKING for racers in the park, but

there will be parking in several nearby lots, so watch for parking

attendants and signs to direct you. Overnight camping available nearby at

South Beach State Park. PLEASE TRY TO CAR POOL as parking is

limited! Please be VERY CAREFUL crossing the busy, tourist-laden Highway

101! Course will be marked for pre-riding after 1 p.m. Saturday.





ATTENTION: High School Mountain Bikers! We have a long history of

supporting you!!! The Coast Hills Classic serves as the final event in the

inaugural 5-race High School Mountain Bike Challenge.
