Central Oregon Trail Alliance Membership Party Spins Bend Bicycle Festival
(Bend, Oregon)
Central Oregon Trail Alliance (COTA), local chapter of the International
Mountain Bicycling Association, invites all bikers, trail users and Bend
Bicycle Festival participants to its first COTA Membership Party on Saturday
May 25. Featuring music by The Rhythm Beans, two-dollar pints of Phil's
Trail Ale (wine and spring water), silent auction and raffles to win
top-notch schwag from Pearl Izumi, Gregory, Patagonia and others, the
Membership party benefits COTA's trail building, maintenance, safety and
educational work.
"Any time you get a bunch of mountain bikers together, it's bound to be a
good time. But in light of concerns raised by logging in the Phil's Trail
complex this spring, the event is also timely," says Kent Howes, COTA board
member and event coordinator. "By holding our fundraiser and membership
drive in conjunction with the Bend Bicycle Festival, we're hoping to
increase our membership base, which strengthens our position as the voice
for Central Oregon's mountain biking community."
COTA plans to use proceeds from the Membership Party to purchase radios and
first aid kits for volunteer mountain bike patrols. COTA works in
conjunction with USFS, BLM and other land managers to create, enhance and
preserve trail opportunities for mountain bikers. In the last year, COTA has
fought to ensure that the legendary Phil's Trail did not disappear under a
gravel quarry site, has added more than 20 miles of new single track trail
to the Bend area, and has constructed and maintained a website to inform and
educate its membership and the public. For membership and volunteer
opportunities, call 541-385-1985 or join online at http://www.cotamtb.org.
Thank you,
Mark DeJohn
