A humongous thanks to all of our sponsors for the second race of the Cascade Cyclocross series: Hutch's Bend, Hammer Nutrition, Clif Bar, Mike Martin at Strategic Mortgage, Kent Cramer at Cramer's Mortgage Services and of course Dr. Tad Hodgert for letting us use his property again.
A smallish turnout today as there were a lot of bicycle related happenings in the region. Eric Martin (Team One Racing) showed the rest of the Advanced field his backside early though and led from start to finish. Paul Parsons (Team One Racing) and Omer Kem had a battle royale throughout the race and completely disregarded the fact that they were in different age categories. Kent Johnston (Lakeside), Damian Schmitt (Sunnyside Sports) and David Baker (ParaTech /Sunnyside Sports) rounded out the Advanced field.
The Beginner category saw a little closer battle. Lennis Herburger (Disco Velo) and Todd Dye (unattached) swapped the lead for the first couple of laps when Herburger eventually turned up the heat and put slightly over a minute on his rival at the finish. Brian Coontz (unattached), Kevin Gorman (Webcyclery) and Todd Gorman (Webcyclery) made up the remainder of the Beginner field. The Gorman brothers, both on single speed 'cross bikes, opted for a couple of hometown races versus making the drive to Downieville, Ca. for the Single Speed World Championships.
The women's field was crushed by Shannan Whitlach (Lakeside) and the Junior category was pulverized by Reitler Hodgert (Team I Won Gloves) who had the home field advantage.
On November 2nd the Cascade Cyclocross series will be back at Hodgert Ranch and will feature, yet again, another new course layout. The November 16th and December 14th dates are still to be determined.
