discuss plan. Anyone is welcome; no experience necessary - people interested

or have questions please contact me by email or phone.

Information about Eugene Celebration Cycling Classic and Downtown Events

Management, Inc:

The Eugene Celebration was created in 1983 to bring together the Eugene

community for three days of fun. In 1997, the City offered the management of

the Celebration to the public and private sector. Downtown Eugene, Inc.

stepped forward to accept the offer. In April 1998, Downtown Events

Management, Inc. (DEMI) was created to manage the Celebration as well as

create and manage a year-round calendar of events.

Today the Celebration is the largest and most celebrated civic event in the

southern Willamette Valley and attracts nearly 100,000 participants during

the three-day period. The Celebration is anchored by eight performance

stages located throughout the streets, parks and open spaces of downtown

Eugene. The stages are linked by street performers, face painters, food

vendors, beverage gardens, a marketplace, a special venue showcasing up to

100 non-profit groups, an extensive KidZone area, the Celebration Parade and

Pet Parade, Sporting Events and much, much more.

Brief History of the Eugene Celebration and the Cycling Classic:

?The Eugene Celebration Cycling Classic is one of Oregon's biggest bike

races and marks the close of the Oregon cycling season?? - Cyclingnews.com

The Eugene Celebration Cycling Classic has grown to be one of the most

exciting event of the year. In years past it drew racers from the NW,

including Canada and California. It has been part of the celebration events

for more than 15 years. I took over as race director in 199. In 1999, the

event drew 200 racers. Then in 2000, drew 320 + racers. This great turnout

made Eugene Celebration Cycling Classic the second biggest race in Oregon

for 2000, just behind Tour of Willamette. Majority of racers came from

Oregon, but a huge number came from Washington, Canada and California. This

is mostly because of the history and quality of the event, along with very

little races at this time of the year. It was a great success for the race

and an inspiration to make it even bigger in 2001. Even better success was

gained in 2002 with one of the stages returning to downtown Eugene. It was a

great event for the community and racers. The dates for Eugene Celebration

Cycling Classic this year are Sept. 20-21
