Wish you could ever ride your bike on a car racetrack? Well, you can now!

The Lakeside Bicycles Monday Night Masters and Women race series starts

another exciting year of racing in May. The race series is in its 15th year

of running at Portland International raceway, and this year?s summer series

is looking to be great! Racing is for Masters 30+ and open to all Women.

Racers of all ability and fitness level are welcome to attend. Masters 30+

are divided by category (fitness/experience levels) and the race is open to

ALL women racers. Come out and try bike racing in a friendly, safe, and

closed to traffic racecourse. Racers that commute the race by bike get a

discount of $1.00 off entry fee and that $1.00 gets donated to the Bicycle

Transportation Alliance.



Portland International Raceway is located on 1940 N. Victory Boulevard. From

I-5 take exit #306b west. The racetrack is located immediately west of the

freeway. Registration is located at the start/finish area in the pit near

the middle of the main grand stands. Entry fee is $12.00. Races start at

6:30 on the following dates: May 5th, 12th, 19th, 26th

June 2nd, 9th, 17th, 23rd, 30th, July 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th, August 4th,

11th, 18th, 25th September: 8th and 15th. Race is sponsored by Lakeside

Women's Clinic Info:

Lakeside Bicycles 2003 Monday Night Masters and Women PIR racing starts next

month on Monday May 5th and continues almost every Monday through September.



For all the women who are curious about racing and would like to learn about

Monday night PIR racing, I?d like to invite you to a free Women?s PIR clinic

April 20th at 2pm. The clinic will be held at Sports Lab, which is located

in NE Portland on Interstate and Ainsworth.



The clinic will last for about 2 hours and will cover the basics to prepare

you for racing PIR. Some of the topics that will be covered include: race

preparation, the race course, OBRA membership, safety riding in a group,

etc. The indoors portion of the clinic will be followed by a practice

session out at Swan Island.

Membership for $15. Out of state racers waive single day fee. More

Masters groups: 6:30-6:35 (staggered group starts)







Distances:



Note: Distances can vary from week to week depending on daylight/field

sizes/weather conditions; they will be announced at staging or at

registration.







COURSE DESCRIPTION: Flat 1.9-mile loop, wide road with excellent pavement,

closed to traffic. PIR is a great place to learn about bike racing and try

out on a circuit that is closed to traffic. Plus you get to ride a bike on a

car racetrack!







Categories/Schedule:



Categories are for Masters 30+ Category graded as follows: May and June -

Cat 1,2,3 , Cat 4,5 and Masters 50+. July and August ? Masters 30+ Cat 1,2,3

, Cat 3,4,5 and Masters 50+. In September we may run race as age graded or

change categories somewhat. This information will be announced in August

series.







Categories are open for all women. All abilities and ages welcomed and

encouraged! MONTHLY SERIES points will score Cat 1,2,3 , Cat 4,5 and Masters

35+ women separately. Please make note of your category on registration.

Results for the night will be based on open women.







Bike Commuters Discount:



Bike commute to PIR on Monday Night and get $1.00 off your entry fee. In

return I will donate $1.00 to the Bicycle Transportation Alliance

(www.bta4bikes.org). Just tell me you bike commuted at registration and you

will receive discount!







PRIZES:



Series prizes will be awarded at end of series (end of the month) for each

category. Prizes (Gift Certificates) are NON TRANSFERABLE, and do expire.

Prizes not claimed 2 months within winning them would be voided.



Gift Certificates are to Lakeside Bicycles, in form of 1st: $25, 2nd: $20,

3rd: $15. There will be occasional cash and gift certificate prizes per

night as primes!
