Here ye! Here ye! The Knights of the Cross Crusade have been working

feverishly to bring to you the best in cyclo cross racing for 2003.

New courses, more prizes, enhanced race day atmosphere. See our completely

Series notes:

- The first series race is less than 3 weeks away. Sunday, Oct. 5th

at Alpenrose Dairy.

- River City Bicycles continues its unparalleled support by

providing the largest series prize list in the country yet again.

- The Cross Crusade, Saturn and Russ Auto Group have teamed up to

give away a car!!! Are we kidding??? No- we're not!!! A one year lease

will be given away on a Saturn Vue sport utility vehicle. This is not just

for the fast folks- everyone who races in the Crusade's is eligible to win

this prize. In fact, the more you race, the better your chances.

- Cannondale is back as the title sponsor for the UCI race on Oct.

12th, 2003. This race featured one of the deepest fields in the country

last year. It is sure to be even more stacked this year as Erwen Vervecken

(2001 World Champion) and compatriot Sten Raymaker of Belgium will be in

town to do battle with the best the US can throw at them.

- The single speed category is set to become the largest such

category anywhere in the world. The SS cat received a huge shot in the arm

when Vanilla Bicycles stepped up as a sponsor. Vanilla is giving away a

completely custom single speed frameset ($1,500 value) to the most dedicated

and swift single-speeder. Of course, beer is still an oft featured prize in

the SS category as well. See website for all of the information on the SS

category rules & scoring (still under development).

- Masters men's categories have been altered to 30-39, 40-49 and 50+

(they will still run with the same categories as last year). Race day

schedule is up on the site.

- The Grail Della Grunge is back. Portland vs. Seattle in a

friendly battle of 'cross racing supremacy. Somehow, Seattle was able to

win last year- but we shall bring back the Grail to its rightful home here

in Portland this year. A full history and some pics of the Grail De La

Grunge are up on the website (page still being developed). The first race

in the Grail challenge race is on Sunday, Sept 28 in Seattle at South

SeaTac.

- The Black Knight will be infiltrating a different race every week

with a bounty of special prizes. It is the duty of each crusader to catch

him and flog him mercilessly. But be wary....the Black Knight has been

known to cheat (and at times panic) in an attempt to keep his loot.

- Portland Brewing is providing the beer as they have every

year.....'nuff said here.

- CYCLOCROSS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS (Dec. 12-14, 2003 @ Portland

Int'l Raceway). Although this is not officially a Cross Crusade event, it

is brought to you by the same fine folks. It is our goal to make this the

same friendly atmosphere we all know and love in the Cross Crusade. There

is a category for everyone, and unparalleled spectating opportunities.

Let's show the rest of the world that Portland Oregon is the epicenter of

cyclo-cross in the USA. We want to set record numbers for participants and

spectators alike.
