Shane put it very well. It is a hard sell.
Here is what I have found helps too to get the media
to attend events.
1. Kids...they love to cover kids and families
2. If possible find someone even if it is the photo
guy at the media outlet that is into biking...if there
is a bike racer/rider on their crew there is a much
better chance they will show up.
3. Smaller papers/stations seem to be more willing to
do stories...I am not sure about media in Portland,
but say Wilisonvillie has it's own weekly or something
like that...make sure they get a press release...the
best press I got on my events has been from smaller
papers like Springfield and Oakridge papers and it
works I have got new racers because of the stories
they did...in 7 years the Eugene R-G has yet to attend
a event...in 7 years and dozens of events they have
NOT been to a single one...pretty sad... Seems like
the big papers are too focused on mainstream sports
and smaller papers are looking for fresh stories about
new stuff.
Good Luck and thanks to everyone that helps keep our
sports going...racers/Candi Mike/promoters/sponsors...
Thanks
Randy
