Hi,

It is just over 6 weeks away to the third annual 2004 Elkhorn Classic Stage Race, June 25th, 26th, and 27th, in Baker City, Oregon. Here is what is happening in 2004:

a.. The Elkhorn Classic Stage Race is the National Championship stage race for the Federation of Independent Cycling Association (FICA) http://home.pacbell.net/learnest/. The winners of the Men's and Women's elite divisions will receive star's and stripes jerseys designed by Bill Cass of Nike. The top three will also receive medals recognizing their place.

b.. It is a 100% payout event with a cash purse of over $9,700 in 2003.

c.. A challenging three day, four stage event. See details at www.elkhornclassic.com

d.. There is a lot to do for the entire family: A downtown parade, Shimano Youth Race, Bike rodeo, Free Hot Dogs, Firework display, Street Dance, and Free Pie and Coffee. A great city park with bike paths for the kids and the world class Oregon Trail Interpretive Center. Fishing, hiking, and swimming are all available in the immediate area.

e.. Who is coming? There are riders already signed up from Washington, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Colorado, Wyoming, California, Canada, and New Zealand.    This race will again be a great test against a quality regional field. Joe Zauner, Northwest Race Reports: www.nwracereport.com, will be writing about the action and Russ and Nancy Wright of AbbiOrca Photography: www.AbbiOrca.com will be taking photos. Steve Truesdale of Digital DJ Service: http://www.digitaldjservice.com/ will be calling the criterium races and spinning the tunes for the street dance.

f.. Pictures of the courses can be viewed at www.oregonvelo.com under Road races/stage race link: Elkhorn Preview. These photos were taken in March at a training camp/course preview by team Half Fast Velo. The snow will be gone!!

g.. Leader's jerseys.

h.. Team Discounts.

i.. Canadian riders can pay US entry fee in Canadian Dollars! Contact promoter for details!

j.. Inexpensive lodging options.

k.. A race not to miss a ride you will never forget!

Registration is stronger than last year and I anticipate that some of the fields will reach the 100 rider limit. Registration closes June 20th. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions. Also, please forward this information to any clubs or teams that you feel may be interested in the Elkhorn. Thank you for your time.

Good racing,

Nathan Hobson
