Portland Design Festival 2004 ? The Value of Design
October 7 ? First Thursday ROI Exhibit opening ? 6:00 pm ? 9:00pm PNCA
October 7 ? 17 ROI Exhibit a juried exhibit of the best design in Oregon and
SW Washington - 9am-9pm, 7 days a week, PNCA
October 8 ? The Awards Ceremony for the Design Festival will honor the best
in design in Oregon and SW Washington- 7:30 pm, PSU Smith Ballroom, Event
begins at 7:30 p.m. Doors open at 7:00pm. Food, music, no-host bar, tickets
will be available for $10.00 at the door no one will be turned away for lack
of funds.
October 11- Kit Hinrichs and Delphine Hirasuna. Kit Hinrichs, partner in
the international design firm, Pentagram, and Delphine Hirasuna of Hirasuna
Editorial. "Bridging the Gap between Business and Design". Presented by
AIGA Portland ? Portland Center for the Performing Arts, Winningstad
Theatre, 7:00 pm $15 AIGA Members, $25 General Public, $10 Students with ID.
October 12 - Local Heroes ? Businesses who have leveraged the value of
design will be the focus of this event. Ray Davis, CEO of Umqua Bank,
Robert Marchant, CEO of Modo, and Gun Denhart, Founder and former CEO of
Hanna Anderson, will be the panelists for this event will discuss how and
why design was a key aspect. ? Wieden and Kennedy, 7:00pm tickets will be
available for $10.00 at the door no one will be turned away for lack of
funds.
October 13 - Marcel Wanders - Marcel Wanders, best known for his work with
Droog, the Internationally-acclaimed Dutch Design Group, will bring his
ever-evolving and engaging perspective on design to festival attendees. Now
the creative director for MOOI (www.moooi.com <http://www.moooi.com/> )., he
also continues his independent work at Wanders Studio located in Amsterdam
and has contributed to numerous well-known design projects. The keynote
address will be held at Portland State University?s Smith Ballroom, 7:00
p.m., doors open at 6:30 p.m. Food, music, no-host bar. Tickets will be
available for $10.00 at the door with no one turned away for lack of funds.
October 14 - IIDA/ AIA/ IDSA Design Competition- A competition honoring
excellence in interior environments and products- Crystal Ballroom, 5:30
?7:30
October 17 ? Closing Event The Portland Design Festival will close with an
event honoring Mayor Vera Katz?s efforts to fuel the creative economy of
Portland and recognize the depth of talent. The evening will include dance,
live music, magic, performance art, poetry readings, fashion shows,
independent film screenings and fine art installations. Memorial Coliseum,
4:00 ? 7:00pm, tickets will be available for $10.00 at the door with no one
turned away for lack of funds.
