Hi,

Thank you for your time in advance.

Just wanted to let you know about what is going on with the 2005 Elkhorn Classic Stage Race held in Baker City, Oregon June 24th, 25th, and 26th. Without going into all of the details I will just say it is a race not to miss and a ride you will never forget! If you have read this far then please go to www.elkhornclassic.com and look at the photo gallery from 2004 and the course profiles. If that does not make you want to race then perhaps the lure of a national champion jersey will. The Elkhorn will again be the Championship Stage Race for the Federation of Independent Associations for Cycling (FIAC) see complete details and how to win your stars and stripes jersey at http://home.pacbell.net/learnest/

What you can expect when you arrive in Baker City for the Elkhorn Classic?

A community that puts up "Welcome Elkhorn Classic Participants" in the shop windows.

Take part in the "Oregon Stage Race Challenge". A separate competition that the promoters of the Columbia Plateau Stage Race, The Mount Hood Cycling Classic and the Elkhorn Classic have put together to entice you to stage race across Oregon. Win one and race the next race free. Win all three and win big.   See web page for details.

To be a part of one of the largest fund raising efforts for the local high school sports program.

Watch your kids race in the Shimano Youth races on Saturday afternoon.

Watch a small town parade Saturday.

Participate in a fully supported bike race through beautiful country and light traffic.

All categories get to ride the same distances!

Park your car and race for three days. All courses start and finish within biking distance of Baker City.

Challenge your fitness against the strongest riders in the western US. If you win the Elkhorn...bravo. If you finish...bravo.

A closed course ITT.

A closed course evening, fast, safe, prime filled criterium.

Two great loop road courses.

Whether off the front or off the back a great ride!

A great place to bring your families and to spend extra time in and around Baker City and County.

A solid GC prize money list.

A lot of riders have asked if Nationals conflicts with the Elkhorn dates.

Senior national events are on Tuesday and Wednesday giving those riders plenty of time to transfer themselves to Baker City and putting that excellent form to good use in a big stage race.

Master events start with the TT on Monday and that would be difficult to do the double. However, if you raced the Elkhorn and then took on the road race and crit in Park City they are not until Wednesday and Saturday (40-49) and the Elkhorn could give you that last bit of hard miles at elevation to bring your form to a peak. (Park City is about a 6 hour drive from Baker City.)

See the web page for lodging options and entry applications. All fields will be closed at 100 riders each. Early registration is encouraged as the Elkhorn grows every year and I would hate for you to miss this race.

Please contact me with any questions.

See you at the races,
