MTB Short Track "Grand Finale" - Mon 8/1

I want to thank Kris for picking up the short track series and putting in

all the hard work of getting sponsors etc. together to pull it off and make

it a true success. I was one of his volunteers so I know that it was not

him alone that made it happen, but he was the spark. The sponsors were very

supportive both in funding and presence. The most exciting thing for me was

to see this event taking place in the metro area where a good turnout of

newcomers "trying racing for the first time" got to taste the fun and

discomfort of bike racing. I just hope some of them continue (mtb, cross,

track or road) doing something that they can do for most of their lives. I

know other events can offer the same chance... but this was pretty special

because just about any bike a newcomer had worked (for sure some better than

others). I hope it happens again next summer and is inviting enough to

attract more newcomers.

This is just one example of how supportive people making up the Oregon

bicycle racing community are.... statewide. I am glad to be a member.

Greetings MTB Short Track Racers!

I hope this posting finds you fully recovered from your last race and

100% "amp-ed" for next Monday's final MTB short track race. This last

race day of the series is going to be a special one. For one, we want to

see how much further we can push the envelope in terms of building   a

fun, off-the-wall, and challenging race course (sort of a best of &

more). Secondly, we will end the day with our series awards ceremony and

a final series raffle. All the details are posted on our series web site

at http://www.portlandracing.com/grand_finale.html.

One important note: with the awards ceremony and series raffle at the

end of the day, we plan to stick a little more closely to our schedule -

give or take 10 minutes. We also will have minimal breaks in between the

races. So if you haven't preregistered and/or plan to pre-ride the

course, you might consider heading out to PIR earlier than usual. We'll

do our best to have both the registration desk and the course open by

5pm.

Anyway, we hope to see you all one last time on Monday to come out and

race, cheer on your friends, and have a great time!

PS: helmets are mandatory at PIR, so make sure to bring one and wear it

anytime you're on your bike (incl. on your way from your car to the

infield).
