12 Hour did Pay $$$ and other facts

Thanks for the e-mail Molly and someone did point me

to your site, so I did read it and replied on the

site.

Your shop always brings a lot of racers and I thank

you for that.

This is the other MAJOR problem with Mt Bike racing

and I am guessing racing period..Fact checks and

rumors...

Truth is the 12 Hour winners in the "advanced" class

did get paid....all of them... solo, SS, two person

men and women, 4 person men and women.

The 12 Hours of Willamette Pass is VERY cheap at $50

compaired to other 12 and 24 races...many 24 Hour

races charge solo racers $300-$400.

Other great but not true rumors...Please know I am

saying this part in fun and part to ask people to

check facts. I totally respect all the racers and am

thankful for their support.

I walk away with $5,000-$10,000 after each

race...promoters of Mt Bike races are lucky to make

$500-$1,000 which comes out to maybe $2 an hour.

Course sucked, but it didn't...99% of the racers can

have a great race and they don't post anything, but

one person ( NOT talking about Molly, I am talking

about others over the years)that 99% of the time had a

bad race or took a turn that only they and/or the

people right next to them took and they post that the

race sucked, when really everyone had a great time.

Pay out rumors...can't tell you how many times this

happens, racers will be standing around at a race and

saying I heard X race didn't pay out, when it was

totally untrue. In my case I pay out more then 1/2

the races, but I hear racers such as this post saying

I pay ZERO $$....NOT TRUE...look on my Oakridge FTF

flyer and you'll see because of our sponsor 1st Tech

we paid out $250 for 1st place Pro men...there were NO

Pro women that raced, so none got paid

Rumors really hurt race turn outs...if you have an

issue please contact the promoter and check the facts

and if you still feel it is an issue then post to OBRA

or where ever.

On the womens pay out issue, frankly at many races

last year there were no Pro women racing. For the

series overall no women had enough races. Only Pro and

Semi Pro(elite) men get paid and only Pro women get

paid, since there are so few women racers there is NO

women Elite/Semi Pro race class, this was decided by

the promoters and OBRA because we felt there were too

many classes...there has not been a Women's elite for

two years now.

Take Care and Thanks again for your support and PLEASE

contact me with any questions

Hold on a second, I thought this thread was about

the $ in mountain bike

racing!

Back to the point:

I'm with Kori. I don't race FOR the money but, I'd

like to see race

payouts posted right along with the race entry fees.

Racing is damn

expensive and I'd like to know when I could possibly

win $ for some race

and nothing for another.

I wrote something about race payout on my journal

last summer.

http://www.mollycameron.com/2005/09/12-hours-of-wilamette-pass.html

I'm pushing for consistent payout for the men and

women's ELITE category

races. Especially in mountain bike racing. I want to

see mountain bike

race participation grow. I feel that if we have more

elite riders

participating in XC racing that will influence more

beginners and thier

friends to get out and try it.

When you pre-register for a race if you see the

potential payout right

there alongside the entry fees, it will certainly

get you a little more

excited to show up and start an event. Also, a

pre-posted payout

schedule will let racers that need to leave early

for work or church or

whatever know that they will be getting a check in

the mail for that

strong 4th place finish.

Keep doing the prize raffles. They are fun and kinda

bring everyone

together after the race.

What about more mountain bike series advertising?

(and clarity) For

instance, I still don't know what the "high school

series" is. Lets stop

writing race flyers in terms that only seasoned

racers will understand.

I want to see EXCESSIVE driving directions, and lots

and lots of simple

plain english race instructions. City and area

reference points too. I

often spend 20 minutes on the computer looking for

race locations cause

I cannot figure it out from the website/flyers.

My 2 cents. If we make XC racing attractive for

elite level racers and

simple and accessible for beginners, more will

participate.

In an attempt to decide which races to focus on

(since I would really

like to do all of them but know that's not a

sustainable approach) I'm

wondering what kinds of MTB series are out there

this year, and which

one offers the best prize money. Yep, I'm not

looking for any more

trophies on my mantel, just going straight for

the mercenary incentive.

Of course I'll also be weighing the amount of

single track in

proportion to the distance to drive (and

conflicting road races), but

the dollars will be a very influential factor.

Mike? Randy? Petr?

What are you serving up this year?

   Looking forward to it.
